Top Dawg Entertainment. Possibly the most influential and game-changing indie label in Hip-Hop right now. Over the past two years, each member of TDE (Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul) has been steadily gaining popularity through the collective efforts of the Black Hippy movement and as a result of the innate desire to individually grow and improve as artists. Ab-Soul and the rest of TDE have expressed how it’s only a matter of time before the self-proclaimed Top Dawg Under Dawg gets the shine he deserves. In the big scheme of things, I do believe that this album will be the push that Ab-Soul needs to break through. Control System is an album that showcases Ab-Soul’s extensive musicality, and the lyrics on this album are nearly immaculate. It is obvious that Ab took his time with this one and gave it all he had. The metaphors and connections that he makes go so deep that it may take 5 or even 10 plays for you to pick up on the entire concept.
