Ab-Soul – Control System (Album Stream)

| Posted by

Top Dawg Entertainment. Possibly the most influential and game-changing indie label in Hip-Hop right now. Over the past two years, each member of TDE (Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul) has been steadily gaining popularity through the collective efforts of the Black Hippy movement and as a result of the innate desire to individually grow and improve as artists. Ab-Soul and the rest of TDE have expressed how it’s only a matter of time before the self-proclaimed Top Dawg Under Dawg gets the shine he deserves. In the big scheme of things, I do believe that this album will be the push that Ab-Soul needs to break through. Control System is an album that showcases Ab-Soul’s extensive musicality, and the lyrics on this album are nearly immaculate. It is obvious that Ab took his time with this one and gave it all he had. The metaphors and connections that he makes go so deep that it may take 5 or even 10 plays for you to pick up on the entire concept. Even his album last year, Longterm Mentality, still continues to surprise me every now and then. Listen to this stream of Control System below and then purchase the album for a mere $9 on iTunes.

Caleb James – Freddie (feat. Nico Segal) (Video)

Caleb James hits us with a video for his track “Freddie” which can be read as “Fred Die.” Caleb is from Chi City and his Chicago roots are evident in this track when the brass-branded hook comes around. Elijah Alvarado did an exceptional job with this video, as well. The old-school black and white movie clips as a nice touch. Lyrically this track is decently solid. However, the overall genius lies in the entire vision as expressed through the aggregation of Caleb’s delivery, the jazzy instrumental and the visual accompaniment. The concept as a whole is one that I consider to be highly impressive. I’m looking forward to see what else Caleb James will bring our way.

C Dot Castro – Boomerang (Video)

Another member of the Ratt Pack, C Dot Castro hits us with some new visuals for his single “Boommerang.” The mp3 for this song will be dropping once the video hits 20,000 views (give it a day or two). The second half of this song transforms into a constantly changing beat doused with lyrical allusions of some of Hip-hop’s best artists. Pretty clever stuff.

Starlito – Chill (Video)

This song could not have been named anything else. Starlito and DJ Burn One certainly have encapsulated the essence of chilling. With the summer coming up, allowing that extra chill time, this is sure the be on repeat. This single is featured on Starlito’s latest mixtape, Mental Warfare.

Curren$y – Fast Cars Faster Women (feat. Daz) (Video)

Curren$y drops off some dope visuals for his dope single off of his upcoming “Stoned Immaculate” project. Nothing too special in terms of the content of the video, considering it’s just them doing what they do best, weed smoking and hanging with attractive women. Hope you enjoy!

Armin Van Buuren – We Are Here To Make Some Noise

Highly recognized as one of, if not the best, EDM DJ in the world, Armin Van Buuren can really do no wrong in the eyes of many. Yesterday, he released a brand new track for his fans entitled “We Are Here To Make Some Noise.” Just from the first build-up and drop, you can tell that this is just a straight up house anthem that will be in many setlists of DJs this summer as they travel the world. Just pure EDM epicness right here. The track can be purchased now through iTunes and Beatport. I’ll say no more, except you should probably turn your speakers up for this one, and enjoy.
